ZERUST® OPS Outdoor VCI Shrink Film

ZERUST® Outdoor VCI Shrink Film is designed to protect valuable equipment and structures stored outdoors for extended periods. When heat is applied, the film shrinks tightly around the asset, creating a sealed barrier that helps block moisture, dirt, and other environmental contaminants.

At the same time, the film releases ZERUST® Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors into the enclosed space. These invisible, odorless molecules disperse throughout the interior and form a protective layer on exposed metal surfaces, including recessed areas and complex geometries that are difficult to reach with traditional coatings.

Once the film is removed, the protective VCI layer naturally dissipates, leaving surfaces clean and ready for immediate use. No additional cleaning is required before painting, welding, or returning equipment to service.

This Outdoor VCI Shrink Film is ideal for long-term lay-up, preservation, and mothballing of large assets such as machinery, vehicles, and industrial equipment. It can also be applied to oversized structures by joining multiple sheets, creating a continuous protective enclosure. Whether protecting assets during storage or between project cycles, this solution ensures equipment remains corrosion-free and ready when needed.

Handling:

  • Ensure equipment is clean, dry, and at ambient temperature before wrapping
  • Use appropriate tools and heating equipment for shrink application
  • Inspect film prior to use; ensure it is clean, uniform, and free of damage or punctures
  • Avoid dragging film on the ground to prevent contamination and static buildup
  • Identify and pad sharp edges using ZERUST® Open Cell Foam to prevent tearing
  • If using a wooden pallet, place a layer of OPS Film between the equipment and pallet to prevent moisture transfer
  • Allow sufficient overlap when combining base and top sections; secure using shrink tape before shrinking
  • Properly secure all seams, folds, and edges by folding and taping before applying heat
  • When joining sections, ensure the top layer overlaps the bottom layer to prevent water ingress

Heat Shrinking Guidelines:

  • Begin heating at the bottom of the wrap to allow heat to rise and improve shrink efficiency
  • Apply heat evenly using a shrink torch or gun in steady, consistent strokes
  • Work section by section until the entire surface is uniformly shrunk
  • Use minimal heat on sharp or thin areas to prevent damage

Post-Application Inspection:

  • Inspect for holes, tears, or weak spots after shrinking
  • Repair damaged areas using shrink tape and apply light heat to activate adhesion
  • Ensure surfaces are clean before applying repair tape for proper bonding
